Last month, I was a mess.
It was a stressful month with new beginnings and some unexpected life curves that well were unexpected.
Maybe it was the late Spring that threw me off schedule but June came out of nowhere and I found myself just overwhelmed.
So overwhelmed that I kinda neglected to write my June intentions down. I don't know why but in June, writing out my intentions felt more like expectations. It felt like work and I was like F&*% it.
Yup, I lost it a little and I am sorry about that. Really! I feel bad I let some of you guys down.
You know we aren’t all perfect. We all have those days, those months where we are just not about it.
But what if I was (more) of a mess because I didn’t feel grounded, because I didn’t have my intentions to keep me on track?
I realized then the importance of taking some time to self care and reflect on your life. Whether you do that daily, weekly, or monthly, I realized it’s an important thing to do.
When you are in school and do bad on a test, you go back and learn from your mistakes. Same at work, if an event goes wrong, you regroup in a post-mortem and make a plan to fix those wrongs and do better next time.
The same should happen with our lives. If we don’t reflect, its so easy to go by our everyday and get stuck in a routine.
You can all of the sudden loose track of where you are going, creating an in-balance in your life.
And we don't want that.
We want to have a clear mind and vision of where we are going so that we can make sure we are reaching our goals, our dreams, and our potential.
So this month, I needed to re-prioritize and put myself first, starting with my intentions for the month of July.
It was hard to make intentions this month. I wanted to really think and reflect on the past four months (March was the first month I started my intentions). I learned that having too many intentions isn’t good because it’s easy to loose focus an only pay attention to a few.
Also, there are a couple of routine things I do now that I don’t need as “intentions” like meal prepping. For some of you however, it may be something you want to write down to keep you on track but for me it’s just part of my every day now.
And for this month I wanted to make intentions that would make me happy and feel good as an individual. So that’s why the first intention is to “Start everyday being Grateful.”
Gratefulness: Life is such a blessing, that we should be thankful and grateful everyday that we are alive, able to walk, and spend time with our most loved ones. Little things shouldn’t ruin your day, and by being grateful I think that it will be easier to let go of some of the less important things.
Self-Care: Well I started it already with actually doing my intentions this month. However, I also want to get back to reading, to taking a salt bath every Sunday, and to loving myself everyday. Loving yourself is very important. It means you accept yourself as you are. If we can't love ourselves, how can we expect to be loved by others and to love others back?
Vision Board: Just like making a career plan or a dream board/bucket list. I need to start thinking about my blog and where I want to take it and some of the things I want to accomplish this year and the next. If I don’t plan, it’s easy for the months to pass me by! For you guys, it may be planning your career path to get you to that next position or maybe even planning a vacation.
Meditation: I’ve been saying I will meditate for four months and so far I have really failed at following this intention. But, I am determined to try again. I’ve even downloaded Headspace, which is an app designed to help people meditate.
Taking walks/Riding my bike: The best way to be in touch with nature (and get a little exercise while you are at it). We spend so much of our lives in our cars, we drive everywhere. We should be outside! Specially in the summer. Plus, its a chance for us to help reduce our carbon footprint. It may be a small step but if everyone takes a small step, we could actually make a difference.
#PlasticFreeJuly: This month, I am taking part of the plastic free July movement and so should you! We actually consume so much plastic it’s ridiculous. Everything has plastic. So, this month is about being more conscious and trying to live with using less plastic. I’ve already started changing my habits back in April. I use my L’Abeille food beeswax wraps, food containers, pint baskets, eco-bags (thanks to Anney Pang), reusable bags, as well as try to avoid buying food with any plastic wrappings.
Lastly, I want you guys and myself to remember to BE PATIENT. Life can feel rushed and overwhelming. We are a generation that wants things yesterday. However, reality is, life doesn’t work like that. We have to put a little effort, a little care, and a little patience to see results.
On a last note, a big THANK YOU to the couple of you who kept me honest last month and asked me about my intentions. I didn’t realize I inspired some of you guys. It really means a lot to know that you guys listen so I am sorry that I missed out on my June Intentions.
I can promise, however, that I will try and write out my intentions for the months to come. And I want YOU guys to write them too and share them with me.
And with that I hope you all have a wonderful weekend and Happy Canada Day!
