Strawberry Season Is Finally Here!

Strawberry season is upon us! And it’s only the first sign of all the good things that will follow from haskaps and gooseberries to blackberries and blueberries to peaches and plums! 

Here are some of my favourite ways to celebrate Strawberry season:

1. Strawberry Picking - there’s nothing better than picking your own berries. Not only do you get close and personal with your food but it’s a super fun activity to do with your family and friends! Not to mention you get to pick the strawberries that are to your liking. Plus, you can pick some white strawberries which you can then pickle and keep for salad toppings. Tip - Get to the fields early so you can pick the best berries and avoid the sun on those super hot summer days! 
2. Strawberry Mexican Salsa - Who doesn’t love a good Pico de Gallo? It’s a great topping on tacos or as a snack as a salsa for tortilla chips. Tacos and summer go together and so last year I added some strawberries to my pico de gallo and I fell in love. This salsa is a perfect balance of sweet and tart with the cilantro and lime adding a refreshing touch to it.
3. Strawberry & Rhubarb Galette or Pie - Perhaps one of my favourite pies and fruit galettes. Just as the rhubarb season draws to a close we get the first of the strawberries. This is really the perfect time to take advantage of the change in change and this sweet and tart dessert. 
4. Eating Them Like Candy - There’s nothing like freshly picked and seasonal strawberries. You just cannot match their taste. So to be honest, one of my favourite things to do is just eat strawberries on their own as candy. I also use them as toppings on my yogurt, oatmeal, and pancakes. ​
