 Before Top Market Family Farms, people didn’t have a place to find common farmer market goods during the off-season months between November and April. However, as of January, this little family shop, owned by Farmer Leslie and her husband is home to a variety of different local and Ontario made products all year round! Nested in the heart of downtown Cambridge, Top Market Family Farms is probably as local as you can get here in Ontario. You can expect that as soon as you walk in to the little shop, Farmer Leslie or a staff will welcome you. Your senses will then quickly be captured by the smell of Goodfellow’s fresh sourdough bread on the front table. However the more you are in the shop, the more you realize the abundance of products on the walls, and on the shelves!   The meats and gluten free options are stored in the big freezers on the far back while the milk, cheeses, eggs, and other beverages are stored in the fridge on the far backside. You can be assured that everything they sell, from their produce, meats, and dairy products, right down to their preserves and baking mix are locally produced. Leslie and her husband work with over 45 farmers and local businesses in Ontario who share their vision of providing truly local and wholesome food.  The name may sound familiar to you if you are a customer of their Top Market Meats, which has been around for the last 10 years. Not to mention their farm has been in the family for over 100 years! Their meats are reputable and loved by many, “[Leslie] not only takes care of these animals feeding them the way nature intended, but it's clear just how nice of a life these animals really get. Everything I have tried from her farm is amazing quality and I now have a problem eating other meats due to the lack of taste,” a customer comments.   Through they have built a strong relationship with their customers, Farmer Leslie noticed that the change in season also brought a loss of regular clients during the winter months. “That’s how Top Market came around. We wanted to provide a connection all around,” [and say] “here is a store where there are local products all year round,” Leslie added. Farmer Leslie believes that it was the right time to open up her business, explaining that, “I think people are craving local.”  People really travel from all over to check out Leslie’s shop. Top Market receives people from Kitchener and Waterloo, to eager buyers from Guelph, Milton, and even Burlington and Oakville! I really recommend you guys to check out the shop and say hello to Leslie or any of the staff. You will not only have a pleasant time but discover some cool local and delicious products as well! Everything in the shop is local and while some products like coffee and chocolate aren’t fully produced in Canada, they are ethically sourced and the businesses are local. An example is Ambrosia Pastry Co., a small and recognized group of chocolate makers, making Craft Bean to Bar chocolate. Top Market Farms is located at 960 King Street East, in Cambridge, ON.
